A familiar place, that looks different

Today is going to be a post that I might have to pull out of myself. I’m committing to posting, and that means I’ll try to find something to talk about. It might be mundane, it might be boring, but I will write something, because I’m putting myself out there, bit by bit. Half of my Pinterest pins I’ve saved recently are “don’t do this”or “best suggests” for blogging – but while I’m going to clean up my folders and start researching things because I can concentrate from the relief of my hip/sciatica, we all have to start somewhere. And while once on the internet, always on the internet, I’ll clear posts out if I have to, to reconfigure the blog.

The familiar place was work. I’m one of the lucky ones who get to work at home. I logged in, and my adapter for my headphones didn’t work. I don’t talk on the phone often, and usually only to IT or our Billing helpline – but I also need to hear when a member comes in so I can prepare, or my team lead answers a question.

Further observations on my life.

I love the thrill I am once again getting with writing to work on.  It’s always there any time I write, no matter when it is.  orld my boyfriend that I am going to beat His word count. Easily. Not because I am trying to beat Him. Because of who I am. Because this is what I do.

What I don’t like is that I don’t treat writing like I should. I should treat everyday like it is NanowriMo, that’s how I will get published. Put all my thoughts and wishes down on paper. Down on a screen. Paint my world for others.  Plus, there is so much else I want to do.

NaNoWriMo Day 4 – Each day is an adventure.

First, my word count at the moment is 7056.  I know someone whose word count is nearly 25k.  Not my boyfriend, tho, He hasn’t written since yesterday, but I’m sure He’ll catch up.  He completed it last year, but I didn’t have as much of a chance to write because of how busy last November ended up being.  I anticipate this year being better for writing, since I’m not going to be training for a new job (like 2015), or moving into a new place (like last year).  We don’t plan to move until at least next year.

Second, while I actually pretty much feel each day is an adventure (even the dull, boring ones, where it’s just running arou d doing errands or back and forth to work), each day with my boyfriend truly is.  This weekend, my son is off to for a Boy Scout camping trip.  My boyfriend and I had things we wanted to get done of the errand type – He had signed up with the library to do a class on roleplaying, and we needed to stock our pantry – but otherwise we have had an interesting afternoon.

The first interesting thing we did is, when we found out the pizza place we initially went to only has their buffet on Sundays (like I thought), we ended up going to the Hibachi place down the row (we love Chinese or Asian places).
Next, after He did the class, we went to a Metaphysical fair here in town, and I picked up some stones I intend to wrap.

Now, after I get done here, we are going to Alamo Taphouse for dinner & a movie.  We love interesting and new experiences.

Hopefully, with all the writing I’m doing now, this will spark more creativity in the future.

Trying Again, one can only start from where they are.

It’s been quite some time since I last posted.  I wish I could say I’ve gotten a lot done in that time, but not at all. I feel like I’ve hardly done anything.  Frankly, most of the time, I feel like I hardly do anything at all.  Up, work, home, goof off, go to bed, repeat.  I feel like a lot of time, not just in this short time since I made that big personal step, but with everything, I’ve just wasted time, I’m nowhere near where I want to be in life, and that doesn’t just affect me, but all of the people around me, especially my kids. Especially my kids. In some ways, I AM in a MUCH happier place than I have been in a while. But I feel like I am missing out on things…things I wanted to do but thought I wasn’t Worthy of, or thought I still had time for, or just thought…someday. But, now I’m 41, and I realize I’m running some out of time. I don’t know if I’m going through some sort of “midlife crisis” or what – but I do still have time to do what I’ve dreamed, and there’s still time for a change.

Next month marks the anniversary of moving into MY first place with ME as the ONLY name on the lease (Yes, my boyfriend is included as an acceptable person, different paperwork, I’m still the person whose name this place is in.).  I have plans for protection of my home for that anniversary, but I also want to start on some sort of action plan, where I start to fit in cultivating what I want to change.

I’m going to have to work on this tomorrow, as I’d like to do it again in my 80 days format, and I can’t get to that from my phone. But, we will see.  Wish me luck.

Lot to come, a lot has gone.

I know it’s been quite a while since I posted on here, but that’s because a whole lot has been going on. I’ve had…..interesting issues. Not great, not bad, but it’s just kept me from getting online like I’d like.

But things are looking up.

And we’re moving. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned my husband’s job becoming non-existent before – the company that bought the company he was working for closed the company he worked for. We’re really lucky in that he was one of the last to walk out the doors.

We will be moving – right now we’re saying we’re going to live with his brother, but hey if I can get a job in Colorado instead of Missouri, more power to us!

I plan on being on here more, so hopefully you’ll be seeing more of me!

Yummy Carrot Soup before the ROW80 Check-In 3/4/15

I’m going to be right on time with this ROW80 check in! Yippee!

General progress – 4 days and I haven’t logged into Facebook once. I uninstalled the messenger from my phone, logged off on both my laptop and my cell phone, and removed the game on my phone that I play. Games are a big time suck for me, so it’s great that I’m not staring at my phone anymore. Nope, now I’m staring into a box full of beads, sorting out the ones I have in my box (re-sorting I should say, as these were sorted out once, but I decided to toss them all together to make room in my big box for other beads.). That way I can do the rainbow bracelets that I mentioned before. This will be posted on my Facebook, I think, but that’s something unavoidable right now. I was going to set up posts for my business page, but I didn’t get to them before March started. And holding to transparency – we talked about opening an account for a fellow vendor/friend so she can get her business out there, but that was stymied because none of us know her birthday! So I almost did, but not for me! And I did fuss about it!

I’m still unhappy with this weather. I’m sure that’s a constant theme. I’m nervous about having to attempt crossing ice rinks all over the place. There is a bucket of sand at the store that we use in front of the store – I asked to take some, and put it between my door and my car. Anywhere I go, I feel some distraction at having that last trek 😦

So, enough of the complaining, on to the check-in:

1. Writing Prompts: As soon as I’m done here, I’m going to go visit my bestie at work (if she’s there) and do some brainstorming/writing for the current #Writestuff challenge and an original (ha ha) idea I had that some ideas popped up in my head for.
2. Networking: Missed this week’s (it’s on Tuesday) #writestuff on Twitter – I know about the challenge because there’s also a Google group for it.
3. Personal: I did some writing, I forget what day – or maybe I didn’t. But that’s one of the things I’m going to do when I leave.
4. Getting my work out there: Haven’t looked anything up.
5. Editing: All old stories are still packed away in the closet.
6. Preparing for Missouri: Nothing since Sunday – tho it was actually 2/3 of the boxes that I brought in.
7. Read something: Haven’t picked anything else up, tho I had that itch!
8. Crafting: Sorting beads, like I said. I talked to a friend who had gotten my doilies at the auction for church year before last, who had asked me to do a table runner. She picked one out from the pattern book I found.
9. Tarot: I did a reading for that thing I mentioned last time, which I’m pretty sure resulted in a very vivid dream about someone. One of the things I need to write about in my journal.
9. Cleaning: No major cleaning.
DAILY – Like I said – working on it.

You may not remember, I don’t think I’ve said anything about it recently – but I’m sticking to being vegetarian. I found a recipe on Pinterest for Vegan Carrot Soup With Caramelized Onions. Very good, well worth cutting my thumb for! I love how you can taste the onions, and that the blended up carrots and potatoes give it a wonderful base.

Off to write now!

Chapter 1
in thought, Abe ran a loving hand over Ariana’s swelling belly, then grinned
when she stirred from sleep and blinked lazily up at him. Wrapping his mind
around that – not only had she been his wife for over three months, but was
also carrying his child – was too much of a dream come true, one he never wanted
to wake up from.
afternoon, Mrs. Cambridge. It’s fifteen after one.”
closer to him, Ariana yawned and let her eyes drift shut. “Five more
snickered against her hair and then kissed her forehead. “Take all the
time you need, baby, but I have a feeling Becky and Janie will—”
and persistent tapping on the chamber door cut off his words and had him
rolling his eyes in irritation.
on the door soon,” he finished through a clenched jaw, his mood swiftly
turning sour at the lack of private time the island’s residents allowed him to
have with his wife. “I can kill them, you know. Nobody will find their
bodies. I swear it. Did I ever tell you that I’m a shark whisperer?”
giggled as she pushed against his body, and when he tried to grab her, she
threw a pillow in his face and scrambled out of bed.
fell back to his own pillow, defeated. “We are going on vacation. No cell
phones. No knocks on the door—unless it’s room service—and, best of all, no
as she opened the door, Ariana greeted her friends with a hug and took the
coffee Janie held out with a sigh and a gracious smile. “I love both of
you so much.”
huffed as he glared at them. “You just saw them yesterday. And you don’t
need that caffeine; it’s bad for the baby.”
took a long sip and winced as the heat bit her tongue. “The only thing
that’s bad for the baby is my blood pressure going up when his or her father
fusses over me too much.”
blanched, and started to throw back the comforter to go to her, but thought
better of it once he caught sight of Becky and Janie looking at him. Unlike
Ariana, he hadn’t dressed after making love the night before.
exhaled in relief as he studied the growing smirk on his wife’s face. She was
the only one who could, quite literally, drop him to his knees with only a few
words. He kept waiting for the spell she had him under to wear off, but with
each day that passed, he had only grown more mesmerized by her charm.
raised an eyebrow. “Come here, devil woman.”
Becky said, laughing. “There’s no time—er… take all the time you need,
Your Highness,” she said quickly, when his mouth flattened into a thin
line and his teal eyes locked on her, daring her to say one… more… word.
would burn that damn clinic to the ground before he would allow anyone to take
even one more minute with her away from him. She already worked too many hours
as it was. It had started out being only five, but then had swiftly moved up to
six, then seven. He had drawn a line at eight, but, more times than not, Ariana
stayed at the clinic up to ten hours, even against his wishes and constant
phone calls.
tore his piercing eyes away from Becky and they softened as he met Ariana’s
set the cup down and crawled up on the mattress and into his awaiting arms. She
stared into his eyes as her fingers brushed back the hair hanging over his
ears, reminding him it was time for a trim. That would take all of fifteen
minutes, so what would he do with the other four-hundred-sixty-five minutes she
would be out of his sight?
had some ass-chewing to do, that’s what, and he was going to do that first.
be back before you know it, Abe,” she said sweetly, almost convincingly,
but he knew better; she’d been telling him that every day since she’d started
working, and it had never, ever been true.
though he knew arguing would get him absolutely nowhere, he still pleaded his
case. “Stay here,” he whispered. “Take the day off. I could use
a little healing myself.” He grinned devilishly.
only answer he got was a small smile and a long kiss. Abe wrapped his arms
around her and pulled her across his body, rolling with her until she was lying
on her back and he was looking down at her beautiful face.
knew she wouldn’t concede to his wishes today, but that wouldn’t stop him from
trying. He had faith that one day she would.
Ariana. Please. I have something I want to show you.”
laughed. “I just bet you do.”
tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear and softly kissed her lips.
Lingering a breath away, he spoke so only she could hear. “It’s sort of
important and special. It’s been in the works for several years, but it’s almost
complete now. I didn’t want to mention it until Roger said you could see it. He
sent me a text last night, but you were too exhausted after work, so I didn’t
say anything. I don’t think I can keep from telling you what it is until your
next day off, so please don’t overwork yourself today, and try to get out of
there by eight.” He paused for a moment. “And eat light for supper;
I’m taking you out afterward.”
eyes narrowed to thin slits, but there was amusement in them that she couldn’t
hide behind her fake anger. “You know how much I hate surprises.”
knew she could have searched his thoughts in one instant, so he quickly rifled
through his memory for the lyrics of Mary
Had A Little Lamb
, just in case. Mindreading was one witchy trait that
could be both a blessing and a curse, but thankfully Ariana tried not to use it
too often. For that, he was grateful. It was bad enough that he couldn’t keep
his hands off his wife for more than five minutes. Keeping his thoughts off her
would be downright impossible.
He kissed
her quick and moved away, so she could get up and ready for work. The quicker
she left, the quicker he could let out his aggression on someone who couldn’t
paralyze his vocal chords. “You’ll like this one. I promise it won’t
embarrass you.”
we come?” Janie asked, the petite girl nearly jumping up and down at
hearing about something new and exciting on the island.
chuckled. “Yeah, you can come. Bring someone, if you like,” he said,
knowing that Janie had been spending quite a bit of time lately with Ryan from
maintenance, and would more than likely want to bring him along. It was killing
Lance to see her with the guy, but since he had been the one who let her go,
there wasn’t a whole hell of a lot he could do about it but mope.
else is going?” Becky asked with a sneer.
shrugged nonchalantly, but he knew she was inquiring whether Will, his brother,
was going to be there, and possibly be with Katrista, the girl who had flown to
the island on the back of a minion from Hell under the orders of Apollyon, the
demon who damn near took Ariana away from him in more than one way.
thinking about that night made him want to wrap Ariana in the tight cocoon of
his arms and never let her out of his sight, but that had been almost three
months ago, and they hadn’t seen or heard from the guy since his descent back
into Hell. Gloria, their personal guardian angel, was checking in on a regular
basis, but she hadn’t sensed any evil hanging around the island, either. It was
still a struggle to relax, but Abe knew how Ariana hated to be smothered, so he
forced his worry from his features, for her.
not sure, Becky, but if you think I’m going to tell my brother he can’t go just
because you’ll be there, then you don’t know me very well.” He ignored the
hurt look in her eyes and slapped Ariana’s butt when she crawled over him to
get out of bed. He chuckled when she yelped.
hearing the shower come on, he looked back to the two girls standing in the
middle of his bedroom. “Would the two of you mind leaving? I’m about to go
shower with my wife, and Ariana threw my boxers across the room last night.”
smiled as the two girls immediately avoided eye contact, their faces turning a
bright shade of pink in embarrassment at being in the same room with their
naked king.
on. Ariana will call you when she’s ready to leave. I can’t promise you’ll be
on time for work, so you may want to leave without her.” He stopped and
huffed when they only stood there with sullen expressions. “What? She
isn’t yours; she’s mine. Go!”
over their feet, both girls turned and ran for the door.
a smile on his face, Abe threw back the cover and jogged to the bathroom. He
could only see the top of Ariana’s wet head, leaned back into the steamy shower
spray, eyes closed as she basked in the warmth of the water. He tiptoed around
the tiled wall that separated the shower from the rest of the bathroom, and had
her in his arms before she even opened her eyes.
smiled as he touched his lips to hers, and Abe noticed that he couldn’t fit his
body flush to hers any longer, not with his young growing so rapidly within her
ran one hand over the soft skin of her belly and pulled her mouth to his with
his other by the nape of her neck. A low moan escaped her mouth and he drank in
the ecstasy like a wino who had just found a forgotten bottle of
eighty-year-old wine in the cellar.
gasped for air when he released her mouth to devour her neck and that little
spot below her ear she loved for him to kiss.
she panted. “I’m going to be late for work.”
approving growl rumbled from his chest as her hands slid down to his hips.
“Damn right, you are. I told Becky and Janie to go on without you, that
you would be there when you damn well got there.”
laughed against his mouth when he claimed ownership once again. “You are
such a king.”
his head to explore more of what she had to offer him, he looked from one
tempting mound to the other, and finally decided to take the left rosy nub
between his lips and softly massage the other with his hand. Decisions,
decisions. It was a tough job being a man in love. He often thought he needed
at least one extra mouth. Wondering vaguely whether Ariana might be able to
witch it on his body, somewhere, he focused on the task in hand.
lips parted, and he smiled when a rush of pleasurable sounds echoed off the
walls of the bathroom.
his other hand free, he ran his long fingers over the cheek of her ass, down
the back of her thigh and pulled her right knee up to his hip. He wasn’t
worried about her getting off balance and falling. He had her. He had all of
head jerked up and he crushed his mouth on hers just as he slid through the
soft folds of her sex and into his most favorite place to be.
jaw clamped shut and his hand shot out to brace them against the shower wall
when her muscles tightened around his erection.
The cry escaped her throat and her nails clawed the skin on his back, but he
pumped into her, keeping a steady rhythm and watching her expression as the
orgasm threatened to rip through her body. “Abe…” she said, winded,
and grabbed his biceps, squeezing the thick muscles and making him grin,
“I—I need…”
know, baby. Just let it go.” He jerked his hand from the wall, pulling her
other leg up, and just like a pro, she hooked her ankles at the small of his back
and took all of him. His knees damn near buckled.
to get his own release by the time Ariana’s climax was over, Abe growled and
quickened his strides. Her body quaked all around him. He was almost there. He
was there.
my vein,” Ariana whispered.
a bit back from the rush, he blinked the water out of his eyes and looked down
at her in confusion. Sure enough, her head was tilted to the side and her wet
hair was moved away, baring her neck and that throbbing vein to him. He jerked
his head away, trying to ignore the instant bloodlust and the anger that was
quickly boiling up inside him.
he said shortly.
please. You need it. I want you to.”
stopped moving inside her and set her feet on the wet tile. Grabbing a towel
from the hook on the wall, he threw it around his waist, tying it extra tight,
so just maybe it would cut off the circulation in his erection and deflate the
damn thing.
Where are you going?”
now, Ariana.” He threw open the bathroom door and walked into the bedroom,
and wasn’t a bit surprised to hear she had followed.
did I do? I don’t understand why you’re acting this way. Talk to me, damn
you!” she shouted when he only stood at his closet and shoved hanger after
hanger to the right. Hell, he wasn’t even sure what he was looking for.
stopped and let his arm fall, but didn’t turn around. “You know how I feel
about using you as a meeker while you’re pregnant. We’ve had this discussion
before, Ariana. Hell, we’ve even fought about it a few times, but you don’t
seem to understand or maybe you just don’t care; I don’t know—”
think that I don’t care about my child?” she said, and Abe turned around,
the muscles in his jaw doing the same workout they did every time their
conversation led to him feeding from her. “How can you even say
that?” she snapped. “If I felt, in any way, that you taking the
amount of blood from me that you need would hurt the baby, I wouldn’t ask you
to do it.” She pointed to her chest, and fury burned throughout Abe’s bones.
“I know it won’t hurt the baby—”
I don’t!” he roared, causing her to flinch. He shook his head and reached
into the closet, grabbing a random shirt and a pair of jeans. When he looked
back at her, he was a little calmer, but not much. “I don’t know what is
good or what is bad for the baby, Ariana, but I can’t imagine taking anything
from you that the baby needs could ever be a good thing. I won’t do it.”
ripped the towel away, and to his delight, either the terrycloth or his pissy
mood had done the job, because Mr. Happy wasn’t so happy anymore. Without
wasting time going to the dresser for boxers, he just shoved one leg at a time
in the jeans then buttoned and zipped the fly. After throwing the shirt over
his head and pushing his arms through the armholes, Abe finally made his way to
the dresser to grab socks.
Ariana whispered, but he didn’t look at her. He couldn’t look at her when he
was this mad, especially when it was her that he was mad at. “Abe, look at
me. I have to go to work, and I don’t want to leave you upset.” He still
didn’t say anything.
put his socks on and located his boots by the bar. Tying the sons of bitches
wasn’t going to happen with his hands shaking so badly, so he just shoved his
feet in, grabbed his keys from the bar and headed for the door.
Where are you going? The sun is out!”
to work, Ariana. I’ll see you later.”
He jerked
open the door, then slammed it shut behind him.

Down to Brass Tacks

It’s been over 3 months since I posted on here last. I don’t know if you’ve wondered where I went, but I’ve basically been here – right on the other side of my laptop – the whole time.

I’ve just been lazy. No reason to sugar coat it (especially since some of what I have been doing, honestly, is making changes in my health and diet, too).

There are things I have done – through the help of the medical establishment (and, once again, kicking and screaming if in no other way than figuratively), my blood pressure now seems to be under control. With putting all the pounds I had lost in 2012 & 2013 over the winter (Girl Scout cookies & Cub Scout popcorn sales, what are ya gonna do?), my blood pressure was giving my problems still. Just a touch of what I had gone thru with the vertigo episode last July. But now I’m feeling better, well enough to make a serious attempt at weight loss and exercise. And I’m not yet sure about my sleep apnea (I have yet to go back for the second appointment – come on people, didn’t you notice it was tough enough to get me in for the FIRST ONE?????), but I know I sleep better both with exercise. And maybe because this summer isn’t nearly as hot and humid – I sit here later in the evening with the door still open and a nice chilly breeze coming through. I don’t mind a slight chill – I can’t STAND a hot day! :-\

Another big change – that I feel also affects my sleep – is my diet. Now, I’m still not perfect – but I haven’t had any meat since the end of June. I’ve decided vegetarian is the way to go. I’ve all but cut out wheat and gluten products (I still use flour tortillas. I’m not thrilled with corn ones. But I limit my bread to only occasionally. No more peanut butter and/or jelly sandwiches ALL THE TIME). My mind is clearer, I don’t feel so woozy, I sleep better, I’m making a real effort to keep my house cleaned up and work towards preparing for our move next year….

Our oldest graduated from high school. It’s been a nice long 18 years, and 5 rough years, getting her through to this point, but once she figured out why homework was so important, she nearly flew right through her Junior and Senior year. One more lesson for us not to rest on our laurels (insert eye roll at self here).

With the graciousness of ConAgra closing the company my husband has worked for since literally the day after my oldest was born, we are moving to Missouri next summer. I have never lived any where other than Western New York (although I have traveled to other places, most notably our trip to Missouri and Wyoming last year.), so this will be a BIG change, but it’s most definitely time. The 2 biggest life details that were keeping us here – our oldest being in a particular program in high school (art) and my husband’s job – are basically eliminated, so the three of us plan to leave. That’s me, the husband, and the youngest child, as our oldest will be staying here and starting her life until it’s time for her to move on. I’m looking forward to it, I know my husband is looking forward to it, and our youngest is looking forward to being able to be around his older cousins more often (my sister’s kids are younger than he is). The amount of stuff we have is just overwhelming! And I’m never completely sure what my husband wants to keep or is okay to get rid of (omg the computer stuff alone!)….I go thru my stuff (yarn, etc) often, and try to use it and sell it off somehow…. *exasperated shrug*….I really like the emoticons that Facebook chat has now, it’s kinda hard not to have them when I want to express something and there’s an emoticon perfect for it.

Yes, I still play games on Facebook. But, yes, I’m also still listening to Aeon Byte Gnostic Radio. And many other things – including several Raw Vegan channels on YouTube, as that’s the direction I’m going with my diet.

So, I can’t promise how or what I’ll write about, but I will be making an effort to be on here more often. There’s so much out there, between writing and vegans who are talking about their diets and recipes and health….I can’t tell you what I’ll be bringing to the table, but I will find my niche. Somewhere……
