Food 4 Thought Friday and Friday Fill-Ins 11/13/2009

You wouldn’t be caught dead, where?

In this house. Now. Around some of these people. Now. But I guess I have no choice.

Was there ever a time you were frightened for your life?

Yes. All of the summer of 2006.

What are you passionate about?

Writing, learning, crocheting and knitting. Not necessarily in that order.

Midnight Snack
Have you ever won a trophy?

Recipe of the Week(instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)

Keep on keeping on. And writing as much as possible.

1. The last band I saw live was Free Henry, a local band, about 2 or 3 years ago at a company picnic. They’re one of my friends on MySpace.
2. What I look forward to most on Thanksgiving is the turkey. Always the turkey Alton Brown does on Romancing the Bird. As always, when I want things like that done perfectly, my husband gets to do it!
3. My Christmas/holiday shopping is nearly non-existent for anyone other than my mom and my kids. We’ll see. I think I mentioned before that I’m planning on making a lot of scarves.
4. Thoughts of finding a new place that I actually like and the impossibility of it right now fill my head.
5. I wish I could wear skinny clothes. 😦
6. Bagpipes are cool. I’m Irish, but Scottish stuff is okay too!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to the Harvest Dinner for P’s day care (it could have been better, but the food was good. The food was dish to pass πŸ™‚ ), tomorrow my plans include writing, writing, writing, writing, writing, writing, cleaning, writing, cleaning, writing and Sunday, I want to go to church and write!

Food 4 Thought and Friday Fill-Ins 11/6/09

What is the last thing you watched on TV?

Before flipping through the channels and deciding to watch Ancient Discoveries on The History Channel, I was watching the end of Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN.

Do you speak more than one language?

Ha. Ha ha ha. I took 4 years of French in high school, but can I speak it? Fluently? In a conversation? NO!

What are your favorite websites to visit?

Right now, the 3 main websites that are CONSTANTLY open in my web browser are

1. Gmail. Love it!
2. NaNoWriMo – so I can keep my word count updated (right now I’m up to 5,115)
3. Facebook – so I can keep my games from losing. I play Cafe World, Rollercoaster Kingdom, Mafia Wars, Farm Town and Farmville. I also dabble in Hatchlings, Sorority Life, Island Paradise, Treasure Mania, Tetris, and Bejeweled Blitz.

Another place I like to visit a few times a week:

Bloglines – I have dozens of blogs I look at on there. The craft ones are the ones I like to look at the most often πŸ™‚

Midnight Snack
You have won a prize. The prize has two options, and you can choose either (but not both). The first option is a year in Europe with a monthly stipend of $2,000. The second option is ten minutes on the moon. Which do you choose and why?

I’d pick 10 minutes on the moon, because there is no way I’d be able to make ends meet in France, which is where I’d like to spend the majority of my time in Europe, on just $2,000. Assuming that’s $2,000 American, then it’s only about $1,350 Euro, and it’s impossible to find a hotel and be able to EAT, let alone see any of the sites, on that much. Or that little.

Recipe of the Week(instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)

Faking it until I make it. 😐

1. Plans and schedules are great and have their place, but I also really enjoy being flexible and spontanious .

2. I’m happy when things run smoothly and everyone agrees. You’re right, I’m often disappointed .

3. The last thing I drank was water .

4. One of the most valuable things in my life is my family—my husband, my daughter and my son .

5. I like just cheese and pepperoni on my pizza.

6. Dear November, we’ve had our adventures, haven’t we? Let’s celebrate one more year (on the 18th!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to writing and a review for a test (already been to both), tomorrow my plans include writing, writing, writing, cleaning, more writing, more cleaning, more writing—making most of my way to the 10,000 words I’m supposed to be at— and Sunday, I want to go to church, help my dad with the leaves (for the second week in a row, LOL!), and more writing!

Food 4 Thought and Friday Fill-Ins 10/16/2009 – back into it again?

I love my laptop. I love having internet at home. This is my life now. I used to think it was crazy that people kept EVERYTHING in their laptop—surprise, now I’m one of those. I can sit in my bedroom and play on the internet (as long as the house has internet). Sweet.

Would you or have you ever gone sky diving?

No. And I never will. No thanks.

What do you think about President Obama receiving the Noble Peace Prize?

I’m disappointed to say….I’m disappointed.

First of all, you have to understand that I voted for the man. I’m excited that the first black president was elected while I lived (not that I’m all that old, or that I thought it would be impossible in my lifetime). I believe that, if there’s going to be change, this is the time to have it. I have many mixed feelings about him—I hope he’s the man to be that change, I hope that he’s not going to mess this up, I hope he doesn’t end up being a really bad person instead (like the Anti-Christ or something. Not that I expect him to be. I still think W is.). I pray for this man more than I’ve, for sure, ever prayed for any other president in my lifetime (and some of them needed it more!).

But I’ve been thinking both with this and with that silly trip to Denmark. If W had taken off, at any point in time during his presidency, but yes especially when he was dealing with some hefty stuff, I would have been perturbed. What right does he have to go off for something so frivilous. Did he really think we were going to get the Olympics? Come on.

I believe he has the potential to earn the Peace Prize. I hope he’ll be able to pull it off. But not even a YEAR into his presidency? Really, who thought that was a good idea???

What is the last movie you saw? Did you enjoy it?

Ratatouille. Who doesn’t enjoy Disney’s kids movies?

Midnight Snack
How much of a worrier are you?

UGH. Don’t get me started!!

Recipe of the Week(instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)

Just surviving with His help. I know he’s always there, that’s all I need.

1. So are we going to ever move out of this God forsaken place???????

2. I just know that change is what’s up ahead.

3. I love to enjoy the experience of getting comfortable in a new place. I miss it.

4. I just want an apartment or house of some sort.

5. I walk a fine line between successfully dealing with this place, and not going stark raving mad. Now we have mice. Really. Mice.

6. Being with family is the true elixir of life!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going to bed, tomorrow my plans include not doing much other than maybe making a lasagna for my mom and Sunday, I want to go to church, there isn’t much else for us to do!

Food 4 Thought Friday and Friday Fill-Ins 08/21/09

This is actually the Food 4 Thought from last week, as we all know I haven’t done this in a really long while, and she doesn’t seem to have a new one up yet this week. Enjoy! πŸ˜€

When was the last time you really laughed out loud and what about?

Earlier today when my sister insisted upon making sure everyone she told she was pregnant was sitting down and not driving—or playing a driving game (there was one of her friends who was playing a video game who she had to make sure had put it down).

How much time do you spend exercising in a week?

Not nearly as much as I should.

Do you look forward to fall or dread summer coming to a close?

I’m totally looking forward to the summer coming to a close. I’m eager for the routines, for the fun of learning, for all that. Just not dealing with certain teenagers and the stress of worrying what they’re doing. UGH.

Midnight Snack
What is something(s) you tell yourself on a daily basis?

God loves me. And Jesus.

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)

Keep on keepin’ on.

1. I remember, I remember things. You don’t want to know.

2. Dear Julie I want you to know I forgive you.

3. Is that my stuff? Really??!!???

4. I’m trying to resist the temptation of anything that’s bad for me.

5. I’m saving a great big gooey hug just for you!

6. If I made a birthday list a place all of our own would definitely be on it!!!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to relaxing at home, tomorrow my plans include getting my SUNY ID card and my text books and Sunday, I want to go to church! This whole weekend I hope to do some cleaning so this place is in order when I start classes.

Catching up a little—last week’s Food 4 Thought and this week’s Friday Fill-ins! 7/10/09

What is the last movie you saw and how did you like it?

Knowing, with Nicolas Cage. It wasn’t as good as I thought it would be—half way through I started thinking “oh no, another M.Night rip off!”. But it was interesting.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

What is one goal you want to achieve this summer?

Reading my pile of books. Just reading A LOT of books. Including the whole bible (I’m in a bible study to read it in 90 days. I’m a bit behind, but I’m still doing pretty good.).

Midnight Snack
What do you do to pamper yourself?

I can’t really say—because a lot of the things I could do to pamper myself, I anyway.

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?

I’ve been very thankful this past week. It might sound weird that I’m thankful for a diagnosis, but I am because now I can treat what’s wrong. I no longer feel in the dark, it explains a lot (though there are still a few things hanging too).

1. The last thing I ate was toasted peanut butter sandwiches and all of my pills (I only take 2 medications right now, but I have several vitamins I’ve been taking since I went to the chiropractor the first time, and I’m not giving up on those).

2. Food is something I recently bought.

3. When it rains, it is beautiful!

4. My husband was the first person I talked to today.

5. Hugs are mandatory in this family.

6. The teenage years aren’t designed for extra comfort.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to reading more, tomorrow my plans include reading and staying home after the bible study, otherwise not much of anything and Sunday, I want to go to church and spend time at home with my family!

Food 4 Thought Friday and Friday Fill Ins – 6/12/09

What activities make you lose track of time?

Too many—cooking, cleaning, eating, crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, playing on the computer, talking to people, reading…if I’m doing something and I’m really involved in it, chances are good that I’m going to lose track of time.

Oh yeah, and I forgot my favorite one: TETRIS!

What did you imagine yourself being the most when you were little?

Not really sure. When I was about my daughter’s age, I remember distinctly wanting to be a math teacher for the deaf. Really, I still find sign language interesting. But, after a while, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. I didn’t know what was coming, I never even imagined that I’d get married so soon!

If you could jump into any book what would it be and why?

Any by Joanna Fluke, Monica Ferris or Diane Mott Davidson. I like the recipes included in Joanna’s (cookies) and Diane’s (depends on what was featured in the chapter the recipe’s paired with) books, and I like that the characters in Diane’s and Monica’s books live in fictional towns near where we have planned to live for a very long time—Fort Collins, Colorado. They are all mysteries, with female main characters, too πŸ˜€

Midnight Snack
What is your favorite thing to fix for dinner?

Italian Chicken. It’s a recipe I found in the community recipe swap area on the Weight Watcher’s site (free portion—don’t go looking now, it’s no longer there. Which sucks, because my copy is going to get ruined some day 😦 ). It’s got chicken (of course), tomatoes (crushed and diced tomatoes), celery, red onions, articokes (if I chose to use them), mushrooms (I usually leave them out because T doesn’t like mushrooms for his own reasons) and spaghetti. You don’t cook the spaghetti, you just put it in after the chicken (you use whole breasts, which cook in the sauce made from the tomatoes and the water you add to it) has been shredded.

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)

Don’t give up. Take my vitamins. Sleep (though I haven’t been perfect with it). And it will all get taken care of, because God is going to put people in my life to help me get healthy, the right way!

1. I grew up thinking my parents were always right and knew everything. Really, even as a teen, I always trusted they knew better, even if I was rebelling (or mom thought I was). I still trust my mom and dad quite a bit, even though I now know they don’t have all the answers. But they are still usually right! (I think they might be surprised to hear that, especially my mom!

2. Facebook was the last website I was at before coming here.

3. Why don’t you?

4. Knitting, crocheting and reading help me relax

5. Thanks for the memories.

6. A doctor telling a patient “it’s just how you are, your parents were big so you’re big” is very off-putting.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to eating dinner, and relaxing after a long day of doing doing doing and cleaning some, tomorrow my plans include more relaxing and more cleaning and Sunday, I want to go to church in the morning, like usual, and get my daughter in the afternoon!

That’s it for these memes. If you’d like to play along, feel free to click the accompanying pictures. πŸ™‚ They’ll take you right there.

Food 4 Thought Friday and Friday Fillins – 5/8/09

Beach or mountains?

Both. But if I had to pick one to live next to for the rest of my life…which I’m going to…then I’d pick the mountains. I left my heart in Colorado!

Online shopping or store shopping?

Store. Online is nice and convenient, but I prefer walking around a store and touching the items to picking and choosing with pictures on the internet. πŸ™‚

If you live in America, do you enjoy Mother’s Day? If not, does your country celebrate Motherhood in any way?

Mother’s Day is all well and good. Nothing special ever really planned.

Midnight Snack
What would be your best gift for Mother’s Day?

Flowers, any kind, from my family.

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)

Holding on to my Father’s hand.

1. Apples are to oranges as being a bad girl is to me.

2. There will be very little talk, frank or otherwise, about sex on this blog, and that’s all I have to say about that.

3. I think I hear peace and quiet for once (it won’t last long!).

4. She’s a grand old flag, she’s a high flyin’ flag.

5. Do what you want to do, but .

6. The little boy walked along and behind him was a Radio Flyer wagon; in the wagon was a bucket filled with frogs.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to decompressing after having to worry about the landlord, tomorrow my plans include very little and Sunday, I want to go to church, where I get to work the nursery!

Food 4 Thought and Friday Fill Ins – 4/24/09

When was the last time you did something for the first time? What was it?

I would say when I started doing memes. I did my first meme sometime last year. Really, I’m tired right now (even though I slept fairly well last night, and I’ve got coffee in me). Don’t ask me to think that hard, k?

What’s your middle name? Why?

Anne. It’s the name my dad picked, I think it was his aunt’s name.

What was the first car you drove?

My parents’ car. I can’t remember which one it was (again, that would be having to think too hard!).

Midnight Snack
What is the strangest/weirdest gift you have ever received?

Hmm…I’m not sure about that. The porcelain doll my friend gave me once, I think. I don’t remember that either (stop making me think!).

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)

Same as always—holding on to my Lord’s hand. He’s not going anywhere πŸ˜€

1. Apparently there’s some sort of bug going ’round still (the kids have the sniffuls. Again.).

2. Today is a sunny day.

3. 2009 has been really messed up so far. Not my best year ever.

4. Then, boom, that was it.
(Alternate: I wish that was it.

5. For too long I’ve been feeling really tired and sluggish and just yuck, not being able to do much of anything. It will be nice when we can figure out what’s wrong with me and I can get better.

6. I am not obsessed with getting the heck out of this house; really I am not!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to D having Girl Scouts and me getting to bed soon after, tomorrow my plans include not much and Sunday, I want to go to church, like usual!

The periodic comeback of Food 4 Thought Friday and Friday Fill-Ins – 4/17/09

When you need alone time do you have a favorite spot you like to go to?

Not really, but when I really need to recharge, it’s either to my mom’s, or to the water—namely the lake, but any creek or picture of said should do πŸ˜€

What is your favorite GUM, STORE BOUGHT COOKIE, and SALTY SNACK

Big Red (oddly enough, also a not exactly cherished nickname for me)

Store Bought Cookie

Chocolate Chip Cookies (nearly any brand, even store brand) should do. The Dulce cookies newly introduced in the Girl Scout cookie line up are good.

Salty Snack

Cheezits! πŸ˜€ (just a note—I prefer the original flavor to all the fancy shmancy things coming out, but this is the best I could find and…um…borrow….)

Do you speak any other languages?

I took 4 years of French in high school. I could do better with it, but not really even enough to keep up a conversation with my daughter.

Midnight Snack
Have you ever been on TV?

Recipe of the Week(instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)

Just holding on to my Lord’s hand. It’s not always easy, but it’s what gets me through.

1. Join me in hoping talking to the DOCTOR finally will get me better!

2. Put a little relaxation in your day!

3. Happiness is knowing you are loved—by God!

4. All too often I feel dazed and confused.

5. I’m waiting for May 4th, so I can have my ultrasound and we can get moving with whatever is wrong with me!

6. Chocolate, coffee, good tasting food, all the things bad for me…. is hard to resist.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going to bed, tomorrow my plans include D going to a Girl Scout thing, and us picking up my Angel Food Ministry order and Sunday, I want to go to church, about time which we’ll meet our daughter’s (FIRST!) boyfriend!

Food 4 Thought and Friday Fill-Ins 3/20/09

If your job made you move, but you could choose which country you would be living in, which country would you choose and why?

Why the assumption that my job would take me out of the country? Are they downsizing/out-sourcing librarians and parents now?

Do you have any phobias?

That something will happen to my family.

What is something you can’t help but spend money on?

Midnight Snack
What profession/job did your parent(s) have while you were growing up?

My mom was a stay at home mom, during the whole “fulfill yourself” phase of feminism. She was very happy (at least with being a SAHM. With other things, not so much, but that’s a different story altogether). My dad was an issuing clerk at a local steel company. He was one of the people who drafted up what was allocated to what company in what form. Now he works for the VA up in Buffalo.

Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)

Just holding tight to my Lord and Savior’s hands!

1. Why do we have to eat?

2. Eating too much then feeling bad about it are now habits. Sad, huh?

4. I had never heard the phraseNothing tastes as good as thin feelsand it without it making me feel nauseous.

5. I will try to lose weight again the way I always do. Weight Watchers.

6. How was I to know losing weight would be so hard.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to D going to Girl Scouts, tomorrow my plans include relaxing at home and Sunday, I want to go to church, like usual!
