First ROW80 Check In. Slow progress is still progress, yes?

This will be my first check in while participating in ROW80.  Hey, I think I’m even going to check in on time!  Well, here goes – slow and a little bit of progress is still progress, right?
1. Writing Prompts: Haven’t trying a writing challenge prompt yet.  But I’m brainstorming some on something from the action related to #2, and I’m opening up a tab for Velvet Verbosity‘s site right now.
2. Networking: Thanks to Cindy at Here, There Be a Writer encouraging me, I joined in on the #writestuff chat last evening on Twitter.
3. Personal:    No personal journaling yet this week :-\
4. Getting my work out there: Haven’t looked anything up.
5. Editing: All old stories are still packed away in the closet.

I’ve got so many other interests and things that need done, so this is that part of the list:

6. Preparing for Missouri: Sorted one box of old bills and paperwork.  Between that and the sudden change in the weather today (it’s winter still, it getting colder shouldn’t be such a surprise.  But as I understand it, I think it was a bit of a drastic change), I think that’s the reason for my headache this afternoon/evening.
7. Read something: Haven’t picked up a book yet, but I need to pick one for my purse (which will only make it heavier.  Oh well), and one to read around the house.  I’m thinking of restarting The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.
8. Crafting: I have but I haven’t finished WIPs.  There’s a scarf that I’m almost to the end of (Rambling, on Ravelry), a hood that I’ve just got to edge and add the button (The Canyon Cowl, probably for my daughter, also on Ravelry, but a pattern I had to buy), and lots of soap savers.
9. Tarot: Haven’t done much interaction with my deck, nor do I have the spreads I’ll use for the Valentine’s Readings I may or may not do at the store on the 12th and 13th, but I did draw the cards for the year ahead reading (using the 13 Moons spread).  I just have to interpret it.
9. Cleaning: Haven’t done any 15 minute rounds lately, but with my daughter’s friend, I did work on cleaning the living room and computer room some, which led to me sorting the box of bills, and her rearranging the living room.  I picked stuff up off the floor, she vacuumed and moved things, getting rid of a ratty chair.
DAILY – Make it to bed between 11:30 and midnight.  I’m not yet in the range yet, but I’m working on getting closer to midnight!

I AM trying, I really am!

I think I am even somewhat successful!  I’m not trying to get on here often (sorry), with all the computer juggling and wondering if my computer will work or Tom’s or what, it’s just so much easier to worry just about my Facebook, Twitter is easier to access here on my phone, and I’m always adding or removing apps depending on what I like, don’t like, download to try or what have you.  And then there’s if our cell bill gets paid, on time or not, and our cable bill (so far so good on that one).

But it’s not as if I’m not busy.  I’m still working on shawls from the Knitted Lace pattern book, and this year I decided to try container gardening again.  My favorite plants are the ones out back, which include several pepper plants (green ones, but orange and yellow too, plus a red one, which are my favorite kind).  Here’s that sweet trio:

Gardening in containers
Cucumbers, Peppers and Zucchini (if I'm lucky)

That’s at their beginning.  They are getting bigger:

Trying to container garden!
Are they much better?

But the real reason I do container gardening is my past success with tomatoes.  This year I decided to do those with the Topsy Turvy planter.  I was going to go with 2, but only managed to get 1 finished and my strawberry planter (omg you need 15[!] for that – I don’t recall seeing THAT on the box) with the energy and time I had.  The other one wilted, but I have it for next year!

My favorite tomatoes on this plant so far have got to be the ones on the very bottom:

These are my strawberries.  I suck at making sure to water them—but by strange coincidence have been able to set up a method to make sure I have a certain amount of water that I try to bring out twice a day.  The plants in back, unfortunately, still aren’t so lucky.  :-/ :

I’ve also played around with my sewing machine & fabric, with a pattern completely off the top of my head – it was a prepared fabric, the kind WalMart’s been selling with the…whatcha call it?…not ruffling, but the fabric’s all sinched up for a bodice.  Of course it was ladybug fabric that caught my eye, and I know both my co-designers were with me with the hubs there & my mom in spirit, almost talking in my head.  The rest was my idea-the panel I had to put in the back because it was a remanent and there wasn’t enough to go all the way around, with matching straps.  I still have to figure those out so they lay flat & cover my bra:

There is other fabric I like at the store, long enough to be a dress.  It would end up being as much as a store bought dress, but it would be all my work.

I need to get back into the swing of writing, but I am doing better cleaning (somewhat).

Wish my luck at getting back on here, and especially getting back to writing.  It really is troublesome—my laptop has decided to quit working all together again, and while my hubby recently bought a new computer, it’s because he bought it to be part of the media center he’s setting up around his awesome 3D big screen tv.  So everyone is using it—mostly for the pS3, but also for regular television, the Wii and for all 4 of us to have access to the computer.  UGH!

Am I in trouble? – Health “maybe” (Part 1)

Well, hot damn, I guess this was a great big maybe, now wasn’t it?

However, I am here. I CAN remain consistent with something, and I WILL prove it to you.

For instance, the girls in my Girl Scout troop are getting into doing charity walks (with my daughter, that’s more “being forced by mommy”, but who is counting? It’s a good program, good for her, and she needs the stability. Though there is some of that….we won’t go into it.). Last year they did a local one, the Laurel Run, in July. Myself and one of the other troop leaders/mothers told the girls we’d join them this year. We have just over 9 week (9 1/2, roughly) to train for this—both of us have downloaded the Couch to 5K app, and we should both be done with Week 1 Day 2.

It feels good to be exercising again! I started last week. In part it was to “stomp out” some frustration on a personal on-going issue, but also it was finally time to start this training. And so I did, last Wednesday. I didn’t start with the C25K app though. I started by taking a walk first. Several. To get my stamina up, or at least make sure I didn’t get beat up by hitting the ground running without my body being used to moving. So I went for nearly a week of walks—and it’s a good thing I did! Because that first day, where I walked 2 miles, I felt like SHIT (sorry, but who really said this was a family friendly site? Not me!), and I hurt. But by Sunday (Mother’s Day, where I went walking with my whole family), I was feeling GOOD when I walked, and especially after. I was motivated to start the C25K app when the other mother/troop leader started hers, on Monday. Gotta catch up. I’m competitive, sometimes.

Okay, and I have to be honest. Half of why I started when I did with the walking was so I can have the energy to clean this place, and not feel half asleep all the time. Because energy begets energy. Now to be motivated and want to change how the place looks. Hell, I just want to change the place!

Now the only thing I’ve got to do is figure out what my weight is. Today I plan on going up to dialysis (first time I’ll have been there since mom passed) and get my ass weighed so I know where I’m starting from.

What I’m excited about, right now, is that I found a great website where I can log my workouts, see the changes in fitness, improvements in time and what have you—and, I just discovered today, log in all those things that I would keep track of on the Weight Watchers site when I was doing it—food, water intake, etc. I already knew weight was included in your profile, but this makes me happy. The site is MapMyFitness—I was looking for something I could map my routes with, to come up with ideas of where to go, etc, and found this. It’s not just for walking or routes, either. I LOVE the site and the app, though my GPS will give me fits—but that’s okay. Once I’ve completed a workout, I can come home and edit that workout on the site, so it more accurately approximates the actual workout! 🙂

And I’ve called for the follow up appointment for the GI scope. That’s one the 1st. I also have a general doctor’s appointment on the 31st, and I have to make a gynecologist appointment as well. That may be Part 2. I know I’m not done, either with reporting my fitness progress or with figuring out my health problems 🙂

I just know I’m not crazy 😀

Don’t go away…

I do plan to have more, shortly. My mom died at the end of January, and my grandpa died back in September. I’m contemplating what to post about my mommy dying—it’s gonna be a long hard road dealing with that, but I’m not going to write a post on the fly and post it—I’m going to make this one special, there’s a thought that’s been knocking around in my head that I want to do justice to.

I’m working on another big story, based specifically on myself and someone I care a great deal for. I may never submit it for publication EVER, but it’s a story I need to get out to work through yet ANOTHER issue—so it’s taking up my writing time.

The house is slowly getting back to where I want it. I work bit by bit every day—it had gotten pretty messy during January, but it really went to pot with the week that was after my mom died.

There is also a knitting project on the needle—a circular one, so it’s only one needle 🙂 I’m again using Knitting Lace Triangles—I made one to practice on, then I used the Leaf and Flower patterns to make the last item I will ever make for my mom—a shawl in a nice Royal Blue yarn I got from my grandma (I wonder if grandma noticed that when she looked at mom at the funeral home?). I’m using those same two patterns for another shawl, this time in 3 yarns I bought about 8 years ago (they are very thin, so I’m putting them together for this) and I’m going to enter it into the Chautauqua County Fair. I’m going to call it “June’s Blossoms” :-D. The Leaf pattern, the one that I use first and as a base, will be long enough to cover my shoulders, then I will keep going with the Flower pattern for a length. I work on it bit by bit every day 🙂

Of course, you know, I’ve still got all those projects I finished, I just need to weave in the ends. Well, I’d better get on those items. Unfortunately, the shop I had been selling things at on consignment closed…good thing I didn’t have much left over there…just a few items I think, but I have no idea where to go asking if I was really that worried! I need to get on them soon, because my bamboo needles are in there, and I love using them to make hats 😀

With mom’s passing—here I thought that Aimee’s passing was going to be the only one I get to mark at the end of January. But now I also have mom. She and Aimee are in the same cemetery (though not as close as I thought from dad’s description), and so I can go visit both of them! And they aren’t NEARLY as difficult to find as Mom’s parents!

Otherwise, I will do my best to keep this up (though some of you no longer need to come here to find updates. You know who you are!), I’ve got to get back in to the 100 Words swing of things. Current word is Engages. I’ve got to catch up some too, I also have 2 on the back burners.

Defining my dreams.

There have been many things I have said I want to do with my life here on this blog before.  I think where I need to start first is with my health.  And I believe I AM, by getting this possible gall bladder issue taken care of, and fighting with my laziness in dealing with my PCOS.  Why I am not proactive and energetic with dealing with and understanding that is incomprehensable…but the only way to go on from here is to define what I want and go after it.  If I listen to my horoscope (which I shouldn’t because of my Christian beliefs but frankly am anyhow since I check the app I downloaded at least once a day), defining it is the first key to achieving it.  And I can do anything I want to if I put my mind to it.  Which I already know about me without the help of some silly app or horoscope writer.

So it is time for definitons.

My ultimate goal is to either get over something or at the very least have that something feeling damn sorry.  And I am already such an awesome woman, that something should already be on that road.

But more so, I want to be a success.  For me.  In my own right.  So my mind, my eye, should be set to my goals and be set to working on them.

As I said before, the first thing I need to deal with is my health.  Over and above working with the health establishment…I need to get into an exercise routine.  One I have interest in and gets my heart pumping…in more ways than one!  I have one already!  One that ties in not only with my health stratedgies and interests, but also with a goal we have as a Girl Scout troop!  That is, last July we participated in a local charity run.  The girl who lives upstairs participated in it as well.  That weekend, she and I discussed what we would do in order to train.  I have to admit, I did nothing and continued to wallow in the funk I was in, smoking at least half a pack a day.  If I exercise, I know from previous experience that I do better in a variety of other areas, including housework (which needs to be improved upon, not a surprise).  At our last meeting doing the charity run yet again was loosely discussed.  I talked specifically to the main troop leader about a goal I’ve been contemplating re: just that issue.

So what is my goal?  To achieve a 5K run/walk by July.  To do that I want to start with Couch to 5K.  I don’t want to put it off until spring, I can foresee starting the work this week.  Or at the very least just as soon as the college kids come back.  So I can use the college’s facilities.  As an alum!

I mentioned last time that I want to write again.  I got down, at that point, 2 100 Word Challenge possibilites.  That I liked.  And I have options for looking into any of my writing dreams.  I just have to put my key in (my mind, making that first step to finding what’s out there and DOING IT) and turning that key.

As for finding a way to contributing around here…before I manage to publish, I still have options.  Things I’ve done before and can do again.  Applications to fill out (some again).

My options are open, the sky is and has always been the limit.  I AM better and would be an upgrade for ANYONE.  Isn’t my hubby the luckiest?

One interesting unintended aspect of a recent event is this…I’m starting with a clean slate with many things.  Right down to my hair, which I decided to cut short short short.  It looks GREAT, better than a professional cut I got some years ago, and this time my hubs did it :-D.  I’d show you, but I can’t get a good shot of myself, LOL!

Coming up…

Now that the new school year is upon us, I will be embarking on a new adventure. I know that I mentioned in a previous post that I had a set of goals I’d intended to start working on. Part of that was to start looking for a job instead of finishing up the degree I had so callously decided to get into. I’ve got applications to my right, and I’ve already submitted one thanks to a “conversation” I had with a former classmate after I posted a comment about getting a job on Facebook. The job I’d LIKE to get is one at a library—any library, really, as long as it’s one with books and people to check them out, so one of these applications is for the school, so that I can work only during school hours while the kids are away and have the rest of the time to deal with family things—but right now money is money, and we are in a hole that it seems one paycheck isn’t going to get us out of. I’d also like something from home, but I just haven’t found anything (else) that I’m comfortable with. The candle biz was great, but it’s just impossible. I love the product though!

What also is coming up is another entry for Velvet Verbosity’s 100 Word Challenge. I’m happy to say, this is another Clifton Saga. Last time was a bit of departure, but it was what came to mind. This time, I was able to quickly put the newest word (Rotten) and part of the flow for the Clifton family, and came up with a real…stinker! 😉 You will have to wait until at least tomorrow, however. I like to let the episodes mellow out if I can…I worked hard on this one, but I may be able to see room for improvement when I look again! 🙂

I’ve also got to weave together some projects that I’ve completed, so I can bring those in for consignment. And this house…well, it all can get overwhelming if I think about it ALL at once, so I’ve got to take it in nice little packets….

But I’m looking forward to this new adventure. I sometimes feel as if I’ve been through the worst lately, and whatever comes after can be handled because I’ve been through that. I just hope that doesn’t ever jinx me, ya know?

So far this week, I’ve completed…

Many things. Below, you will see the list from my last post, with the completed tasks appropriately marked. I have to say, I’m pretty proud of how well I’ve done, at least when it comes to the house! 🙂 I’m working on the things for class too, but have not made the progress I’d LIKE. But I have made some, and that’s better than nothing.

Wash clothes – done. And brought them to the laundromat because the clothes HAD to be washed like NOW because of a small mishap with thawing the turkey, and the clothes in Mt. Washmore were the only things to soak all the water up (the towels too, but the clothes helped A LOT!).
Pick up floor – done
Pick up garbage – done
Vacuum – done
Sort P’s toys – done (I’m proud of this, it’s usually the kind of thing I DON’T get around to!)
Sort and bring down old toys for my nephew (to be) – done (same as above)
Fold clothes – done! I swear, I’ve never folded clothes faster than I did at the laundromat!
Get rid of game consoles
Dishes, dishes and more dishes – down to a few things from today, plus the glasses!
Weave in ends of baby blanket
Work on response paper – some—a start on part 1, not sure WHAT I’m going to do for the rest. I’ve got to find a way to watch the movie!
Research for debate on torturing terrorists – started! yay!
Do Social Statistics exercise

Also, I managed to:

Make a good grocery list for food
Go get groceries
Bring paper to be recycled
Bring sorted toys not to be handed down to Salvation Army
Make up the brine for the turkey
Make 2 apple pies

I think that’s it. I’ve been busy. I think my house looks pretty good 😀 I plan on taking the rest of vacation, after Thanksgiving, doing work for class.

I haven’t written anything since Monday night. It makes me sad. I hit a wall, which makes me feel real sad. But I’ll get through it. Sometime soon I’ll be able to make up all those words! I know I will! 😀

Still trying to work through it all

Yup, I’m still working on figuring this getting out of this apartment thing. Most of the day I contemplated moving into my classmate’s apartment when she leaves, but I haven’t made that phone call yet. What phone call I did do was calling a Realty Management Company that my upstairs neighbor told me about, that she had actually used to get this place. I’m going to stop over there sometime soon (hopefully tomorrow between classes) and check it out, plus maybe a couple others.

My day went pretty well otherwise. My classes were interesting, and I even spoke up with my own views in my Intro class. The Judicial Conference (and especially the professor) in my American Constitutional Law class this morning was good for a few laughs.

I finally folded all those clothes that have been sitting in the washroom—washed, in baskets—this afternoon after I came home. Now P’s drawers are stocked with pants (because yesterday around the time I did the rug, I also sorted through our bedroom—no, that was the day before—and the boxes I had with his extra/winter clothes in, now one of those boxes has his shorts and sleeveless shirts in it) and shirts. I also went through the one cupboard in the kitchen that wasn’t closing because of all the stuff in it. P had commented on it the other day—I don’t remember what, but I told him it wouldn’t close because mommy has to sort through it. So she did. When I did our room, I also sorted my clothes and have a nice size box of clothes to donate. I’ve got to go through the trunk of the car sometime soon, hopefully when it’s not raining out…LOL!

Something else I’m proud of—I think I have my entry of the most recent word for VV’s 100 Word Challenge already written! That feels kinda good—now I just have to sit down and really work on the take home test for my Ethics class. Due to the democratic process, the due date for that was pushed back. Now it’s due on Tuesday. I’ve poked at it, and basically have what I want to put down, I just have to flesh it out.

I have at least 4 inches worth of the sock done. I work on it mostly in between taking notes in class, LOL!

Okay, I’ve got to go to bed, so I can get up tomorrow and start this all over.

I’ve got to measure that window, too, so I know how big of a window to get.

Take care 🙂

Trying to keep up with it.

(Note to self: don’t use Quick Press if you’re essentially going to be writing a full length post. It doesn’t save for you, and if you mess up with your control commands because it’s dark where you are and you don’t have your glasses on, it will wipe out all your work.)

You can tell I’m feeling better. I’ve started to do more than just walk around in a funk—I’ve actually done some cleaning around the house. I vacuumed, I’m keeping the floor fairly well picked up, and I’m keeping most garbage (especially kitchen garbage) contained. Now if I can just find us a new place. Oh yeah, and I’m posting here. Har har…

I had seen a commercial for a Rug Stick on tv the other day, and checked out if they had them and how much at the store the other day. They cost $13 a piece. I decided instead to get a can of Foaming High Traffic Carpet Cleaner instead…the generic is just $3. So I took to the carpet with it this afternoon between classes. It’s fumes gave me a bit of a headache, so I’m going to try a homemade cleaner instead (I haven’t made homemade laundry detergent lately, the bucket and the ingredients have been sitting on my kitchen counter for weeks, probably a good couple of months!). It worked pretty well, and instead of the apparatus of the Rug Stick, I just used the scrub brush part of my mop to work it into the carpet (not a damp one like the can said).

Also, I went to the Career Development Office before classes and made an appointment. I need to start working on getting me an internship, and I need to work on my resume and interviewing skills. I knew one thing I wanted when I started with this major was to get an internship. One way or another, they are very helpful—my internship at the Seneca Library is my one bit of experience working in a library, and at least I have that!

VV finally has a new word up, I’m going to have to start working on that, plus the take home midterm for my Ethics class. T joined me in there today because D went to a friend’s house (and thankfully seems to have stayed there the whole time! I was worried, and do you really blame me?).

I have a sock on the needles. From my original Learn to Knit Socks book. I’m going to have to dig out some different yarn to work with Socks A La Carte. 🙂 I don’t want to go to bed now, I’d rather stay up and work on some craft. But it’s bed time. So I guess that’s where I’m going to go. Plus, the battery is going to run out on me here soon, so I might as well go 🙂

What a nice day…

We no longer have to boil our water, yay, but I’m not sure I want to clean the things I’ve been putting off because of the boil water advisory. 😐 But they need to be done. So, here’s a list:

Pick up clothes and towels from this weekend
Wash dishes
Wash clothes
Fold clothes

I’m going to take a little more time in the living room with the family, start up biscuits for creamed chicken, then do some dishes. Wish me luck! I’ll do memes again soon!
